i completed a personal photography project during the last snow day. it's a day in the life project. i started taking pictures first thing in the morning and captured all the little bits and pieces that make up a regular day at our house. the idea is to take photos of the everyday life that you wouldn't normally think to capture like brushing your teeth, making breakfast, etc. it's freezing in time the little things that define the phase you're in but change so quickly before you even have a chance to notice. my photos are not technically great and the composition may sometimes be a bit off, but it's very real and captures us. what i loved about this project is that it made me slow down to appreciate our little quirks and more importantly, to take notice of how quickly my little ones are growing. it seems they are changing a lot by a lot and not "little by little" as my business name suggests...
i urge every parent to take this challenge. capture your "everyday".
here's our day...
blueberry pancakes for breakfast! nadia loves to help cook and luckily this was a time when she did not make up her own recipe...
a little window art to pass the time while the snow fell at a furious rate
owen keeps his room very orderly. here he was organizing his prized possessions... a video camera and a princess alarm clock he inherited from his big sister. nadia decided a couple weeks ago that she couldn't sleep with a clock in her room as she watched the time too much and then would panic that it was taking too long to go to sleep. owen overheard this conversation and quietly went upstairs, unplugged the clock in her room, and set it up on his nightstand without every saying a word. he's had his eye on this prize for over a year now - what glory to finally have it!
will the snow ever stop??? not this winter it seems
at least we can snowshoe
maggies is always in her element when the snow starts falling
owen got himself dressed today - no shortage of flare in his choices as usual
this simple pic of their bath setup actually makes me really sad. i've just realized it's been months since they played with toys in the bath. another phase gone without any warning...
fuel for round two of shoveling. here's a quirk about matt and i. we really do not enjoy coffee made at home. at all. i was so overjoyed when matt braved the storm for our guilty pleasure.
it really feels like yesterday when nadia first put together her first few words to read. and now she's on to chapter books by herself. this reading thing is crazy how fast it changes. she does though always read outloud which makes me smile.
did i mention this kid will only answer to "ninja owen?" we are in a serious ninja phase presently. cars are definitely done and superheroes are also over.
bath time. without toys. at least he still loves his animal towels.
getting ready for bed finally...
wiggling her FIRST LOOSE TOOTH!! it is going to be touch and go if nadia turns 7 before she loses her first tooth. she is convinced she is the last first grader ever to still have all baby teeth.
wondering how much longer she'll let us cuddle up and read her books at bedtime - this puts a lump in my throat to think she could do this on her own.
owen falls asleep in about a minute flat every night and does not move at all the entire night. note the giant bruise on his cheek from earlier today...i did put the camera down and did not capture the incident when he ran into the corner of the wall. after i yelled at him 10 times to quit running in the house!!
and the big girl is out... but this isn't her usual sleeping style
yup, this is more like. she does gymntastics even in her sleep.
and this is our life!
