twenty tiny toes

over spring break, we drove from our home in harvard, ma to where we grew up in michigan to meet two of the most perfect babies.  these sweet 7 week old babies are our preemie identical twin nephews - nolan & evan.  On the first day of our visit, it was their due date which was of course celebrated with cupcakes and a "zero" candle.   i have to tell you, it was a long 7 weeks to wait to meet them.  but they stole our hearts upon first glance... even our 3 year old son wanted to borrow one and bring him home.  i admittedly did too.  there is just something about those little newborn noises they make, they way the grasp onto your finger with their tiny hands, and they way they curl up on your chest as they fall into a deep sleep...  irresistable!

and they are definitely identical!  nolan has the cream hat with the tan stripe below and the brown diaper cover.  he also has his toe nails painted blue on one foot to help hopeless aunts to tell them apart.  evan has the tan hat with the the cream colored stripe.

this last picture is perhaps my favorite of the session.  not for technical quality, but for capturing real life with twins.   as sweet as these two little babies are, it is not an easy road to have two preemie infants.  it's beyond exhausting.  this is not a picture where I caught my brother-in-law blinking.  he fell asleep right in the middle of the session!   i always say that i love to capture "real expressions"...
